Half term, four children, different ages, what to do? visit Marwell Zoo. Not only does it have hundreds of amazing animals to see it also has a world exclusive Brickosaurs event - a collection of life like Lego brick dinosaurs on display around the 140 acre park! Running from 5th April 2019 to 1st September 2019.
Unfortunately our day was a bit wet (typical half term) but having the Lego dinosaurs around the zoo to search for distracted from the rain!
Upon arrival the boys were given a trail map to help them find the Brickosaurs ticking them off as we go.
The park is set in 140 acres with a train and 5 adventure playgrounds there are daily talks and animal feeds as well as cafes and picnic places inside and out - I would say you need at least 4 hours to walk around and see everything.
First stop - our first Bricosaurs find! - these lego dinosaurs are incredible and each one has facts about how long they took to make as well at how many bricks were used - so fascinating… this was fantastic for the wet day we went on as it breaks up the walking in between animals and made it fun for the children to search for - meaning they were less bothered about getting wet!
Then not far after that Penguins - there was an outside section as well as inside so you could see them under the water. I was thinking oh no we wont get to see any animals as its raining but there are both inside and outside sections to most enclosures and with hundreds of animals there are lots to see!
One of my favourites are the giraffes and as this was inside Betsy was able to have a really good look and we watched the for ages
After that we all needed a pitstop for a warm drink and the toilet! hot chocs all round in the café and donuts for the boys! (And Anthony as it was his birthday) We stopped in the café and had a warm up ready for more adventures!
So many more animals to see as well as a Wallaby Walk through, cold blooded corner and a tropical enclosure where the sloths are - they are so cute! you have to search for some of the animals as they are hiding - we played a game of who can spot the animal first! Boys loved it!
The bricosaurs have a base camp activity area which is inside too and have two huge pits full of lego to play in as well as face painting and other fun stuff to get involved in.
Outside Marwell House is the largest Lego brick dinosaur model ever made - a whopping eight metre Tyrannosaurus Rex - there is a competition to be entered where you can guess how many bricks were used to make this model - you can fill in your details on the trial map and post it in the box in the gift shop at the end of your visit.
We took a picnic with us and stopped in one of the inside picnic areas where there are tables chairs bins and toilets nearby. One of the things I noticed was in the baby change areas there are heaters as the toilets are outside this makes it nice and warm for baby.
The gift shop is full of lovely artwork and souvenirs to purchase - I bought Betsy her first Zoo book. She loves it!!!!
Marwell Zoo is owned by Marwell Wildlife a global charity in the UK Africa and across the world. it engages with over 40000 schoolchildren through ciricculum based education and welcomes more than 500000 visitors each year!
Well worth a visit it was a lovely day out - it is educational as well as fascinating to see so many animals in real life. We will be back.
Thanks for having us!
What do you call a dinosaur with no eyes? Do you think he saw us!!!!!
